The Process:
STEP 1: The Idea
I prefer to visit the site and photograph the various angles for the light. This connects me to the scene and the understanding of what resonates with you, the Client. Once the viewpoint is agreed upon, I compose a detailed drawing. If a site visit is not possible, I am able to work from photographs.
STEP 2: Research
I connect with each project by exploring the structure, physically, emotionally, and historically, which assists in capturing the essence of the architecture and aids in the construction of the sculpture.
STEP 3: Building
With layers of wood, I focus intently on building the artwork. I am conscientious of the timeless quality of art and I only select clean, dry wood. Using various saws, tools, screws, nails, and industrial glue, I ensure the artwork is structurally sound.
STEP 4: The Details
Construction will take the longest. I intuitively use the textures of the wood, as I would a paintbrush. The relationship between the wood and the oil paint is symbiotic; I foresee how the oil paint will bring the surface to life with the textures of the wood chosen.
STEP 5: Painting & Integration
Several layers of paint are applied, bringing the artwork to life. A clear semi-gloss, UV protective sealant is applied.
STEP 6. Delivery & Installation
Custom boxes are designed to protect the work. A Certificate of Authenticity is included as well as installation directions.
Lighting is paramount in showing off your custom artwork. Your custom piece has many dimensions, and lighting the work appropriately activates it's magic.
I am happy to recommend lighting and the ideal space. If possible, I love personally delivering your custom artwork. It is truly a celebration!
